Omniya Launches the Fourth Edition of the “Omniyat Madrisitc” Plastic Collection Competition for the 2026/2027 Academic Year
Non-profit organization Omniya has announced the launch of the fourth edition of the “Omniyat Madrisitc” Plastic Collection Competition for the 2026/2027 academic year. The competition is sponsored by the Ministry of Education for the fourth consecutive year and supervised by the Environment Public Authority, with the support of the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of State for Development and Sustainability Affairs, the Green Urban Development Initiatives Committee, Kuwait Oil Company, as well as other sponsors from the private sector.
Omniya CEO Sanaa Al-Ghamlas said that the continued sponsorship of the competition by the Ministry of Education for the fourth consecutive year reflects the competition’s success, the growth of its database related to individual performance, its expanding reach, and its role in raising environmental awareness about waste segregation at source and fostering a generation that is conscious of the importance of recycling in protecting the environment of our beloved State of Kuwait.

Participating schools will also be welcomed at the exhibition accompanying the competition at The Avenues – Grand Plaza, from September 17 to 30, 2026, daily from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Al-Ghamlas added that the competition targets the education sector, which serves as a cornerstone for building communities. She praised the participation of additional government entities this year, describing it as evidence of the State’s growing commitment to environmental sustainability.
She also noted that Omniya’s presence at The Avenues for two weeks will help attract a broader segment of society to participate in the competition by collecting plastic waste and delivering it to participating schools.
Al-Ghamlas further stated that, in its fourth edition, Omniya looks forward to the participation of a larger number of public schools, from kindergarten through high school. Last year, 156 schools participated and collected 264 tonnes of plastic in just six weeks. The collected plastic was recycled by specialized entities, contributing to the preservation of 792 cubic meters of landfill space and reducing 660 tonnes of CO2. This year, Omniya aims to double the quantities collected.
Al-Ghamlas expressed her deep appreciation to Minister of Education Eng. Sayed Jalal Al-Tabatabai for adopting a sustainability strategy for the competition in support of Kuwait Vision 2035, and for his continued commitment to being present and supporting the initiative. She emphasized that his involvement contributes to motivating male and female students and has a significant positive impact.
She also extended her thanks to all participating schools for their tremendous efforts in turning the vision of a sustainable wish into reality.
She emphasized that investing in students’ environmental awareness is a long-term investment in Kuwait’s future, pointing out that the ultimate goal is for sorting plastic waste at source to become a daily habit among the new generation, and for every student to recognize that their role in protecting the environment begins with their everyday practices.
